Enduring a highly anticipated opening by the community and funded by not only the City of Fort Lauderdale, but many of the city’s leaders in innovation (such as Auto Nation, the Stiles Corporation and FPL), we are all primed for the grand opening of the Science Park. The Museum of Discovery and Science will open it’s new Science Park on Friday, March 23, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.
The Museum of Discovery and Science has already become the hottest spot on the East side this season. Exhibits for Curious George and Clifford The Big Red Dog are currently bringing in families from across South Florida and have them buzzing with excitement. Families will be now able to enjoy new, hands-on, interactive learning opportunities built for all ages to stimulate scientific thinking through play. “We can have fun outdoors exercising our minds and bodies by exploring the basic forces of nature,” the Museum explains in their Science Park Experience page through their website.
Entry to the Science Park is included in exhibits admission! Yes, that means no additional fee to enjoy this entire outdoor extension of the museum. For families with young children, this may seal the deal in purchasing the Summer Savings Pass, a program which MODS has participated in during years past.

Explore, Discover and Share at the Science Park
Creatively inspiring and begging to be explored, the Science Park calls to the youngest and oldest visitors alike to test, perfect and discuss the exhibits surrounding them. Physics and engineering have never been so tangibly fun! Offering a delectable blend of giant play equipment unlike any found in a traditional STEM class (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), MODS has made the “big idea” accessible to all.
Science Park Interactive Exhibits
From testing out energy transfer and cause and effect, to experimenting with simple machines, pulleys and levers, each exhibit has been selected to provide a variety of learning experiences covering an array of core subjects, including light, sound, astronomy and the laws of motion. Here are the exhibits you will find, built out in fun-filled, family-involved discovery centers across the outdoor space:
- Tennis Ball Launcher
- Roller Coaster
- Giant Levers
- Cool Fan
- Sun Spotter
- Ball Range
- Wheel Roll
- FPL SolarNow™
- Tree Pulleys
- Bottle Rocket
- Sound Station
MODS is located in downtown Fort Lauderdale along the historic Himmarshee Village area, across from Esplanade Park and parallel to The Riverwalk. Open each day of the year and participating in the Summer Savings Pass, the Museum is a family favorite for it’s family-friendly exhibits and exploration areas as well as the biggest screen around – the IMAX! Favorite permanent exhibits include live ecosystem displays with interactive exhibits to learn about Florida-native animal habitats, weather and unique water needs that teach the importance of respecting our environment, water conservation and recycling.
