Mark your calendars for these very important events! We Rock the Spectrum, Davie, a specialized kid’s gym that supports developmental and sensory play for a wide range of ages and abilities, is bringing two events to our community of families who live with or work with children on the autism spectrum. Music Therapy for Children with Autism
As Dr. Jennie says on her website, “There is significant research to support the benefits of music therapy as it relates to socialization, emotional regulation and behavior, as well as communication.”
DIR/Floortime for Children with Autism
DIR stands for ‘Development’, ‘Individual Differences’ and ‘Relationships’. Floortime is often referred to as “Play with a Purpose!” A therapist or caregiver interacts with the child at that child’s developmental level, allowing them access into their world in order to encourage and challenge the child’s personal growth. DIR/ Floortime focuses on the child’s interests to build on a their strengths while fostering meaningful, positive, and enjoyable relationships. When the child is able to develop positive relationships to participate in developmentally-appropriate interactions, true learning has the opportunity to flourish!
