Get mobilized and participate in relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Harvey.    Simply make worthwhile your time, efforts, cost as well as the efforts and energy on the receiving end.

Think before you give; ensure that the goods you are gathering can reach people in Houston and are “Disaster relief donations that don’t bring relief.”  Juanita Rilling, director of the Center for International Disaster Information, gives an eye-opening account with a first-hand view of how ‘incomprehensible contributions’, such as unusable prom dresses or warm clothing in a warm climate are a ‘second disaster’.  Items may not be fit for use or simply be impossible to store, sort and disperse.  Tammy from “Occupy Sandy” says to look to Relief Supply Registries to make YOUR help go the farthest in a disaster scenario.  While money doesn’t always feel ‘personal enough’ to those helping, it is often the most compassionate things you can do!

DIAPERS AND BABY SUPPLIES, MEDICAL

Did you know that national organizations do not supply relief victims with diapers? Our local Diaper Bank with Broward Moms is in association with the Texas Diaper Bank who has access to buying diapers at better costs than we have access to and they have a Wish List created on Amazon as well (shipments will occur as soon as they are able).   They are actively accepting donations to distribute to the needy families across the Houston area and those families effected by the hurricane and have suffered loss.
