As mothers, our libraries are the first place we turn to for community: introducing them to a structured learning environment that fosters a love of books, reading and language.
Our Main Branch of the Broward County Library system is so special and our community is so enriched by their forward-thinking initiatives! Plans to open May 2017 include the new children’s wing, an Active Learning Center for ages five and under, showcasing technology with many interactive and touch-enabled computer systems to inspire tiny (and intuitive) fingertips. Such technology will be supported by a rich collection of children’s classics and must-reads (prepare your inner child to encounter a vast and unique library collection!) and a backdrop of scenes to inspire imaginative play and recreation during each child’s visit as they grow and develop.
Championed by the Youth Services Supervisor, Sydna Wexler, her passion is a gift to the greater community of families across Broward County and the downtown Fort Lauderdale area.
Our fingers are crossed for the grande vision to include a Tween area, catering to ages seven through twelve and offering various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Activities for Kids which are among the most in-demand and engaging concepts which capitalize on children’s and pre-teen’s natural curiousity.
As always, the best and most effective way to show your appreciation and support for our library systems and what they bring to the community is your presence. The Downtown Main Library offers wonderful free resources for children and their families, from Children’s Storytime, Art, Yoga for Children and Lego Club! Classes do not run on holidays. You can always check the schedule with us or directly from the Broward County Library website. Links are listed below.
